Too Much Time in Car Seat Dangerous

A study published by Pediatrics has revealed that too much time spent in a car seat can lead to low oxygen levels and breathing problems in infants. This study was conducted on 200 healthy 2 day old babies. After an hour strapped in a car seat, they had lower average oxygen levels than infants laying in hospital cribs.

While car seats are essential to babies' safety in a vehicle, they should not be used as a crib replacement. A car seat secures the child in an upright position, which is best in the event of a car accident. That position, according to the study, can also compress an infant's chest and restrict his or her airway if they are left there for too long.
