Two women who met on a website and exchanged pictures of their babies regularly because both daughters were born on the same day in 2007 have a new story to tell, how Madeline Robb from England alerted Megan Santos in Tampa, Florida that something looked wrong about a recent picture that had been sent. It turns out a slight discoloration in the photograph sparked a memory for Madeline of a recent news story in England about retinal blastoma, a form of cancer that affects some young children and can be fatal.
Retinal blastoma can show up in routine photography as a flat white ring around the center of the eye. It turned out that Madeline was right, and Megan's daughter did in fact have the cancer. Megan credits Madeline with saving her daughter's life, even though the two had never met in person.
